Psychiatry
Psychiatry is the branch of medicine concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of a very wide range of mental health conditions.
Psychiatrists assess both the mental and physical aspects of mental health conditions. Unlike other mental health professionals, such as psychologists and counsellors, psychiatrists must be medically qualified doctors who have chosen to specialise in psychiatry. This means they can prescribe medication as well as recommend other forms of treatment.
We are dedicated to understanding, supporting, and treating adults with a wide range of mental health conditions. We provide comprehensive assessment and evidence-based treatment to improve wellbeing for a variety of conditions, including:
- Drug or alcohol misuse
- Anxiety disorders
- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- Depression
- Bipolar disorder
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Treatment for mental health conditions is very individualised and unique to the person, and usually involves a combination of therapies. Our consultant psychiatrists use and prescribe a variety of treatments, including
- Psychotherapy
- Medication
We also offer specialist assessment for autism in adults.
Autism affects how a person understands and interacts with the world around them, including how they prefer to communicate and how they experience social situations. Autistic adults often display remarkable strengths such as attention to detail, creativity, and innovative problem-solving.
