Miss Eleni Vrizidou

Miss Vrizidou is a highly skilled and dedicated consultant ophthalmologist based in London.  She specialises in medical retina, ocular inflammation (uveitis), and cataract surgery.

Miss Vrizidou graduated from Democritus University of Thrace, Greece, in 2001. She completed her ophthalmology training in Athens before undertaking advanced subspecialty fellowships in medical retina, uveitis, and cataract surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital and King’s College Hospital, London.  Since 2018, she has been a leading Medical Retina Consultant at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.

With over 14 years of experience in ophthalmology, Miss Vrizidou provides expert assessment, diagnosis, and management of a broad range of retinal and inflammatory eye conditions. Her specialist interests include diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), retinal vein occlusion, and other complex medical retinal diseases. She has extensive experience in managing complex ocular inflammatory disorders and performs cataract surgery.

In addition to her subspecialty practice, Miss Vrizidou manages a wide range of general ophthalmic conditions, including , dry eye disease, blepharitis, and other common eye disorders.

Miss Vrizidou is actively involved in clinical research and has authored numerous scientific papers and presented posters at both national and international conferences. She is an active member of the research programme at Queen’s Hospital, contributing to advances in retinal disease and ocular inflammation.

Committed to postgraduate medical education, Miss Vrizidou serves as the College Tutor at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. In this role, she leads the organisation and delivery of ophthalmology training for resident doctors, playing a key role in supporting and developing the next generation of ophthalmologists.

Miss Vrizidou has extensive expertise in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of retinal and ophthalmic conditions. Her clinical interests include:

• Uveitis , Anterior and posterior
• Diabetic retinopathy and maculopathy
• Age-related macular degeneration
• Retinal vein occlusion, and other retinal vascular diseases.
• Retinal therapies, including retinal laser treatment and intravitreal injections of anti-VEGF agents and steroid implants, including Ozurdex® and Iluvien®.
• Advanced retinal imaging, including Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), fluorescein angiography, and indocyanine green (ICG) angiography.
• Cataract assessment, diagnosis, pre-operative counselling
• Cataract surgery, and post-operative care, including the management of post-operative inflammation.
• YAG laser posterior capsulotomy.
• Inherited retinal diseases.
• Chalazion removal.
• Urgent eye care and the management of acute ophthalmic conditions.
